For us in Nuclear Medicine it is very important to provide an alternative treatment and diagnosis
to cancer patients, but the most important thing for us is to provide them quality of life so that
they can continue to carry out all their daily activities as usual.
We have the latest generation SPECT/CT and PET/CT hybrid equipment, the most modern one in
Mexico.
In our Nuclear Medicine Center as part of a comprehensive diagnostic plan, your advanced Imaging
physician might refer you for Nuclear Medicine studies. Additionally we have agreements in place
with domestic and global insurers which allows us to receive patients from abroad. For their
convenience we have a Holiday Inn hotel in our facilities. This offers the advantage that patients
are just a few steps away from their Doctors and treatments.
What is a Nuclear Medicine Scan?
A nuclear medicine (NM) scan is a diagnostic exam that provides your doctor with important
information about organ function. In nuclear medicine, imaging radiopharmaceuticals (radioactive
medicine or tracers) are taken orally, by intravenous injection or inhalation. Special cameras
then capture and form images from the radiation emitted by the radiopharmaceuticals in the body.
This process is different from diagnostic X-rays which pass external radiation through the body to
form the images.
NM scans determine the presence of disease based on biological and anatomical changes; i.e. how an
organ functions, and what it looks like. Nuclear Medicine scans allow us to evaluate the function
of a number of organs including the thyroid gland, lungs, heart, stomach, kidneys, and
gallbladder.
Further, NM scans allow us to monitor certain types of cancer, detect a number of bone and joint
abnormalities such as fractures, arthritis or tumors, and evaluate certain neurological diseases,
infection and myocardial perfusion.
Types of nuclear medicine scans we provide:
-
• Myocardial perfusion scan.
• Bone Scan.
• Cisternogram.
• Gastric Emptying Scans.
• Hepatobiliary Scan.
• Infection Studies.
• Lung Scan.
• Lymphoscintigraphy.
• MIBG.
• Neurologic Scans.
• Octreotide.
• Parathyroid Scan.
• Prostate.
• Renal Scans.
• Thyroid Scan.

Areas and Services of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging at Médica Sur
Diagnostic Nuclear Medicine.- We have Gammagraphy studies that allow us to evaluate the function of practically every organ in the body.
We have high-tech equipment that allows us to perform hybrid studies fused with a tomography that even allows us to have images in 3 dimensions.
We offer studies of high diagnostic certainty because the interpretation is performed by two Nuclear Physicians specialized in Molecular Imaging and Nuclear Medicine, in the case of heart studies by a Nuclear Cardiologist.
Therapeutic Nuclear Medicine.- We have novel therapies for patients with metastatic prostate cancer, such as Lutetium 177 PSMA or for patients with bone metastases from prostate cancer with Radium 223.
For patients with thyroid cancer we have iodine-131 therapies, providing specialized medical care before, during and after therapy. In the case of patients with neuroendocrine tumors we also have treatment with Lutetium 177 DOTATOC.
Note: Consult your physician since he/she is the only one authorized to indicate the type of study to be performed on each patient according to his/her medical history and to interpret the results.
